Befriending services

Our befriending service supports older adults who feel lonely or disconnected. Trained volunteers offer regular companionship - face to face, by telephone or virtually.

The Friends First project

A city-wide initiative led by Age Connects West Midlands supporting people aged 50 and over to reduce isolation and build meaningful connections - friendship groups across Birmingham facilitated by trained Reconnectors and friendly volunteers.

Volunteering with Age Connects West Midlands

  • Befriending Volunteer - face-to-face or telephone companionship
  • Friendship Group Volunteer - help run over-50s groups (from 1.5 hours a fortnight)
  • Café & Charity Shop Volunteering - Communitea Café and our charity shops
